From experienced artists looking to challenge their everyday working to absolute beginners curious about painting. My courses aim to liberate, invigorate and inspire. All courses can be adapted to suit individual needs. Please contact me for details. I also teach one to one in my studio. Please contact me with your specific requirements and I'll do my best to help. These are some of the courses I teach.

Watercolour & Gouache.

Absolute beginners – Weekend and 4 day course.

This is for those who have not used watercolour or gouache before and seek guidance to develop their painting techniques and methods of working.

Course aims. Step by step how watercolour works, how the paper works with the paint, use of brushes and how to make effective marks, colour mixing, and mark making/techniques.

Flower/plant painting – Weekend and 4 day course.

A course for either basic or advanced flower painting in water based medium, whether it be watercolours or gouache. Depending on the ability of the participants I teach this course specifically at that level.

Course aims. Observation- how to see a flower, what to look for and how to paint using specific brushes and paint mixes so the flower looks alive! Colour mixing, how to get that luscious watercolour movement that everyone loves. Mark making, how to get all the lovely veining, edges and marks that sit on the surface of the colour. How to use your brush to achieve flowing shapes that empathise with the plant natural movement.

Techniques for landscape (also in Acrylics) – Weekend and 4 day course.

This course takes advantage of the amazing natural beauty that is North Wales.

Beaumaris is across the straits from the snowdonia range and the movement of colour, textures of the mountains and the effect of weather can be observed from the end of the road!

This course is based in the studio,  but there will be short walks to make sketches and take photographs for inspiration and to observe the ever changing views.

Course aims. To paint the local environment using first hand information. Sketching will be encouraged and colour swatching developed so that information can be retained (sometimes called an aid memoir). Sketchbook work is part of this course and is invaluable so work can be finished at home or at another date.

Pen and Ink, walk and sketch – Weekend course walking in Snowdonia. Sketching and taking photographs as we go, there will be time to paint up and develop  images in the studio later.

Course aims. To point out to participants that which is in the Landscape but often goes unnoticed -mostly because we anticipate that which we are going to see. In that way we miss so much natural beauty, but if its harnessed, always makes for original and satisfying work.

I aim to point out colour, light and texture,  and that which is passed by because we feel that we cant do justice to the splendour that is, because we don't have the technical know-how to reproduce it in an image. I will demonstrate and show techniques that can be used to create paintings that are individual and an expression of that which is experienced, individually and as a group.

Dates on application. Group size, small!  Please contact me for information or questions you may have.

“Thank you so much. Having never picked up a brush in my life, you have given me the confidence to sit in my garden and play and I thank you for that. You have helped me find ‘Me time’.”

— Rachel G, Anglesey, North Wales

If you are interested in coming over to Anglesey to do a course and need help with accommodation please let me know, there are some amazing B&B's close by. Beaumaris is a beautiful place to stay and there are many top class restaurants, individual shops and lots of things to do!
